Around Hepworth Art Gallery, there is an urban landscape that provides an excellent backdrop for a photoshoot. Being more accustomed to shooting fun, relaxed portraits and using natural backgrounds, this brick and metal scenery paired with model Mbemba seemed a potential challenge.
We shot in the midday sunlight and captured some intense, serious shots. Even rather downtrodden areas looked pretty quirky, as we played around with depth of field and different angles - we even got some snaps around the gallery itself.
This is definitely an example of how pushing yourself out of your comfort zone can end up being immensely rewarding. As well as expanding Mbemba's portfolio, the more structured and posed style of these portraits definitely added a new dynamic to our repertoire.
